German language exam for university admission (DSH)

The DSH certificate serves to demonstrate the linguistic ability to study that foreign applicants need for admission to a degree program in Germany. You should be able to understand, analyze, reproduce and comment on study-related texts.

After starting your degree program at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, you can further develop and consolidate your German language skills in the DaF (German as a foreign language) classes. You can find more information in the course catalog for the Open Language Program.

To prepare specifically for the exam, we recommend that you attend the Preparatory German Course at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

The overall result of the DSH examination is

  • DSH-1, if at least 57% were achieved in both the written and the oral examination.
  • DSH-2, if at least 67% were achieved in both the written and the oral examination.
  • DSH-3, if at least 82% were achieved in both the written and oral examinations.

Result DSH-2 or DSH-3 must be proven in order to be able to study at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

The examination results are anonymized and sent to the candidates by e-mail; they are also posted on the Language Center website.
