German as a foreign language

Language & Culture

German is the most widely spoken mother tongue in the European Union. Some 90 to 105 million people worldwide speak German as their native language. Furthermore, there are at least 55 million people in the European Union alone who speak German as a foreign language. Incidentally, German is not only spoken in Germany, but also in Austria, German-speaking Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, eastern Belgium, South Tyrol and Alsace.

Intensive courses German as a foreign language for international students

Several excursions took place in September and October 2021 as part of the DaF intensive courses. Visits included the city centres of Mainz, Weinheim and Darmstadt (Mathildenhöhe, Rosenhöhe). In this way, the international students were able to use the German language in everyday life and experience regional studies directly on site.
